"The Building Will be Beautiful"

Somewhere in the middle of my life crumbling, the Lord said seven words that changed how I saw the whole season: "Demolition is never pretty. But the building will be beautiful."

What follows is the closing chapter of the book those words produced, and the theseis of everything I'm building now

The wilderness season is meant to break us—but not in the way we might think. God allows things that were not built on Him to be torn down so that what He has designed can be built on the proper foundation. And we all have something that could use a complete rebuild.

Though it looks messy, He is there during the whole ordeal—overseeing it all, teaching, training, encouraging, and empowering us to see the process through.

I believe this is why, despite everything that was happening, I kept feeling the push in my spirit to keep going. At no point did I sense it was time to give up or turn around—until it was time to let go. I had to go through it.

Like a faulty structure, certain thought patterns, perspectives, perceptions, habits, and behaviors had to be dismantled. And this was the Lord’s way of taking a hammer to it all.

“If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” —Psalm 11:3 (NKJV)

As I was in the thick of it, feeling all the aches and pains of this complete overhaul, I heard the Lord say: “Demolition is never pretty. But the building will be beautiful.”

In that moment, I could feel His excitement as He reassured me that no eye has seen, nor ear has heard, nor has it entered the heart of man the things He has prepared for me.

Every trial was a lesson. Every obstacle was an opportunity to draw nearer to God. Every challenge was a test. Every moment held something to be extracted—and this book is a compilation of that.

So now, as I find myself sitting in the middle of what looks like the ruins of my life, I know that everything I need to build what God has for me next is right here—buried in the debris.

In that day I will restore David’s fallen tent. I will repair its broken places, restore its ruins, and build it as it used to be, so that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations that bear my name, declares the Lord, who will do these things. —Amos 9:11–12

When it’s all said and done, what God is building in me—and in you—is certain to be beautiful.
